The Kansas City Chiefs announced the free agent signing of
1. Those close to Huff call him “Quest.”
In this interview via the Casper Star Tribune, Wyoming coach Dave Christensen referred to Huff by the nickname “Quest.”
Christensen, who was speaking about Huff when he was a Wyoming senior, had the foresight to suggest Huff would “have an opportunity to probably play after he gets done here.”
A little more than three years later, he’s still right.
2. Huff started his career with the Tennessee Titans, briefly joined the Jacksonville Jaguars and spent most of last year with the Baltimore Ravens.
The Titans drafted Huff in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. When he was coming out three years ago, NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah cited his ability to play both the corner and safety positions, which makes sense for general manager John Dorsey and the Chiefs.
When the Titans released Huff in 2016, the Jaguars claimed him, but the Ravens signed him off their practice squad in early October.
For what it’s worth, the Chiefs have listed Huff as a safety.
3. Huff has played in more than 1,500 defensive snaps in his career.
According to analytics website Pro Football Focus, Quest has played in 1,573 defensive snaps for his career, and he has also played special teams.
Pro Football Focus graded Huff’s special teams ability on the punt unit fairly well for both 2015 and 2016, handing out grades of 1.5 and 2.5 for those years, respectively.
4. Huff shined at the ’14 Senior Bowl.
According to CBS Sports’ Rob Rang, Huff “helped his cause against top competition at the Senior Bowl, demonstrating light feet, efficient turning motion and fluid acceleration.”
His track speed (he also lettered in track and field) couldn’t have hurt, either.
5. Huff has a daughter, and apparently she can hoop.
Here’s a tweet from January of 2016 from Huff’s official Twitter account, @MHuff28, in which he cleverly refers to his 9-year-old as “SheBron James.”
